Guitar Solo

In this lesson, we’re breaking down the logic behind one of the most iconic shapes in blues history: The B.B. King Box.

A lot of you liked the B.B. King solo I shared a while back and asked how it works, so I decided to go deep into the theory and fretboard logic behind it. We’ll explore how this “Box” acts as a perfect hybrid between the Major and Minor pentatonic scales, and why it’s a “guaranteed recipe” for a professional-sounding blues solo.

The solo follows a C-F-C-G progression. With every full cycle of the chords, the solo shifts up one position on the neck, covering all 5 shapes systematically.

RIP Greg Brown (1970–2026).

The guitar world lost a unique voice this week. Greg Brown was the mastermind behind the dry, funky, and incredibly catchy guitar lines that defined CAKE’s early sound.

To honor his legacy, I decided to record one of his most iconic moments: the solo from “I Will Survive”.

Rest in peace, Greg. Thank you for the riffs.

How to use arpeggios in solos? This Hard Rock Metal Solo is played over an Am-F-C-G chord progression. I chose to use mainly triad arpeggios (1-3-5), but of course, there are other elements as well, like scale fragments, bends, slides vibratos… Guitar TAB included.
